I signed my contract for Fang Face in June 2008 ... so it's been a year now and the book's release date is still three months away.
One of the pure and simple joys of writing is that day when your completed project ... your book ... is finally in your quivering-for-joy hands.
I mean, sure, there are some good things along the way, like seeing the cover art for the first time, wrapping up the edits and planning how to spend your bagillions of bucks. But still, you get more out of your baby when you're finally able to cradle it ... and wipe its butt.
Anyway, I get to cheat a bit, courtesy of the Printer's Row book festival in Chicago on June 6-7, because my publisher made pre-release copies available so I'd be able to have them that weekend.
And we were ready to go... I have my three best-selling author blurbs on the book, I listed a couple hundred Jr. High kids who had something to do with the completion of the book and my publisher is coming to Chicago to join in the fun.
So come look for us at Printers Row ... I'll be the one in a Hawaiian shirt, flip flops and a goofy grin waving a really fun vampire book under everyone's noses.

Ah, such a patient trooper!! I'm already getting complaints from disappointed authors when I tell them our pub is booked for 2009. It's half over already!

It won't be long now. I agree, the most exciting part in the process is seeing that completed book for the first time. It's awesome!
